Volunteer Opportunities

(note there is no required number of volunteer hours)

 

  • Ministry – Pray for KRM guests, staff, and our faith-based impact in the community. Present mission information & updates to faith-based & local organizations, write thank you notes.
  • Drivers part-time – To transport shelter guests to community resources and appointments.
  • Shelter – help prepare meals & with kitchen tasks, laundry assistance, cleaning of shelter space and offices, garden & landscaping work, professional haircuts, repairs/maintenance.
  • Fundraising – Help procure special funding, plan special events and support sponsors.
  • Volunteer Management – Support volunteer recruitment, orientation, scheduling & record-keeping.
  • Computer & Clerical Skills – Assist shelter leadership with database management, scanning records, mail appeals, writing volunteer/donor thank you notes, other tasks.
  • Guest Mentorship – Provide direct 1:1 mentorship as in “study buddies” or skill teaching.
  • Guest Enrichment – Coordinate/assist w/holiday activities, crafts, games, workshops.
  • Donated Items – Help with solicitation, pick-up, organizing, storage, and disbursement of items donated for shelter and/or guest use.
To join the Kitsap Rescue Mission Volunteer Team:

Once you have turned in a completed KRM Volunteer Application and the associated forms, you will be contacted to participate in a brief orientation and have a tour of the shelter. In this orientation you will discuss the available areas you might be interested in, volunteer guidelines, the mission history and its immediate focus for the future.

*All Kitsap Rescue Mission Volunteers are required to participate in orientation and agree to participate in a background check. Please complete the attached Background Check, Oath of Confidentiality, and Media Release forms; then return them with this application and the background check form via USPS or email.

Remember: Our guests’ confidentiality is crucial. We never discuss any of our guests’ personal information with other volunteers, other guests, or outside the shelter. Anything of concern should be promptly and confidentially shared with shelter leadership. Thank you for volunteering with KRM!
